More than Just Foot Pain

Foot pain and ankle problems are a fact of life for most people at one time or another. Everything from simple sores to stubbed toes can often be treated at home with over-the-counter medications and time, but in some cases, foot and ankle problems require the care of a podiatrist in order to resolve themselves. Below is a list of some common reasons to see our podiatrist, Dr. Catherine Casteel:

Foot Pain and Other ProblemsFoot Pain

Yes… foot and ankle pain that is severe, and/or does not go away or ease up, should always be referred to our podiatrist. There are many causes of foot and ankle pain, including physical injury, degenerative conditions, and more. While some pain is normal after a slight injury, pain that increases when pressure is applied to the affected area should be examined.

Lumps or Bumps

If you notice lumps or bumps on your feet or ankles, it would be wise to seek advice from Dr. Casteel as soon as possible. Lumps and bumps come in a variety of forms and could signify a potentially serious problem. Bumps on top of the skin could be an indication of an infectious disease.

Cracked Skin

Many people deal with cracked skin on their feet, especially around the heel area. There are a number of conditions that can cause dry skin or cracked skin, and if left untreated, could cause some sort of infection. In many cases of cracked skin on the feet, this is something that would also be wise to recruit our podiatrist’s expertise.

Swelling

Swelling of the feet and ankles can lead to difficulty with mobility, and it can also be a sign of a serious medical condition. If your foot or ankle feels and looks swollen, or if you’re experiencing any kind of tightening and uncomfortableness, you need to have it checked out. Attempting to move with or apply pressure to swollen feet and ankles could make the condition worse or even cause additional damage.

Instability or Numbness

Another foot and ankle symptom that needs to be checked out by a podiatrist is instability. Many things can cause foot or ankle instability, and people experiencing this symptom may have difficulty walking or standing. In addition, numbness in the foot or ankle needs to be treated.

If you’re experiencing any of the above symptoms in the Rowlett, TX area, or if you have any other foot and ankle concerns, the medical experts at Casteel Foot & Ankle Center are available to help.
